Glasgow Riverside Innovation District (GRID) is an ambitious partnership between the University of Glasgow, Glasgow City Council and Scottish Enterprise to accelerate an inclusive approach to innovation.
Encompassing 700 acres on the northern and southern sides of the River Clyde, GRID runs from the University Campus at Gilmorehill in Glasgow's West End to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, and includes the communities of Govan, Linthouse and Partick.
Within its boundary, the University and its partners are taking a whole-systems approach to economic development, driving innovation through research expertise and convening power to support entrepreneurship and attract high-value industry to co-locate and develop opportunities for local jobs in Govan.
GRID’s key anchor institution is the University of Glasgow - a world top 100 research intensive institution, with over 500 years’ legacy in discovery, a recognised leader in life sciences, quantum, artificial intelligence (AI), extended and virtual reality (XR/VR), semiconductors, creative/cultural economies and energy.
Today, the District is home to a growing number of businesses trading in these clusters, including a growing portfolio of high-growth University spin-outs.
