Key Clusters

Key clusters in innovation districts are concentrated groups of interconnected companies, specialised suppliers, service providers, and associated institutions in a particular field that are geographically close.

These clusters enhance productivity and innovation through close collaboration, competition, knowledge sharing, and the creation of synergies. They are key to driving the economic activity and entrepreneurial spirit within innovation districts, fostering a dynamic environment where ideas can flourish and businesses can grow.

Within GRID, health and life sciences are a strong cluster centred on Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (Western Europe’s largest critical care complex), the Precision Medicine Innovation Centre, and the Clinical Innovation Zone. Other clusters are emerging in quantum technologies, pharma and digital and creative technologies.
