Glasgow City Region
Glasgow City Region has a population of 1.84 million people, which is roughly one third of Scotland, and a workforce which is one of the most highly skilled and flexible in Europe, with 66% of working age and over 42% educated to degree level – the second highest among other competing UK City Regions.
The Region is home to several internationally-acclaimed universities and research institutes, three emerging world-class Innovation Districts - including GRID - and Glasgow’s International Financial Services District, a base for 30,000 of the Region’s jobs and one of the top 15 of Western Europe’s best performing financial centres.
With almost 50,000 businesses in the region – the fourth largest amongst the UK Core City Regions - its tourism economy is also strong, with impressive visitor numbers, a successful record in attracting business conferences across Europe and a strong reputation for hosting high-profile cultural and sporting events.
In addition, the Region has the benefit of £1 billion infrastructure investment from the UK and Scottish governments – vital for supporting local jobs and businesses - along with established partnerships in place across the Region to support businesses and drive growth.
